Although comprehensive this list of our immigrant ancestors is incomplete. Click on any of the hyperlinks below to get additional information regarding the family and those who emigrated from their homeland to the United States. Surnames in BLUE TEXT are of Chad's lineage while those in RED TEXT are of Sietske's family: Andersen - Jens Andersen (3GGF, 4GGF) & Anne JORGENSEN Andersen (3GGM, 4GGM) from Denmark. The exact date of their immigration to the United States is unknown, although their second child, Christian Anderson, was born in Denmark in 1853, while their third son, Joseph Smith Anderson, was born in Fillmore, Utah in 1855. Bentzel - Johannes Bentzel (6GGF) & Maria Sophia Bentzel (6GGM) arrived in the New World in 25 Oct 1748 at Philadelphia on the Elliott, although this information is not yet proven. Johannes and Maria Sophia are the progenitors of most Bentzels in the United States today, particularly those of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The Bentzel family settled in today's York Co, Pennsylvania. Branson - William Branson, Sr. (9GGF) & Mary TATE Branson (9GGM) emigrated from England in 1708 on the Golden Lion, arriving in Philadelphia. They settled in Philadelphia, eventually becoming one of the leading iron industrialists by the mid-18th century. Broman - Jacob Nilsson Broman (3GGF) from Sweden in the 1800s Campbell - John Campbell (4GGF) & Mary Jane HAMPHILL (4GGM) Campbell from England in the early 1800s Carr - Patrick Carr (5GGF) & Bridget SWEENEY (5GGM) Carr from Ireland in the mid-1800s, although this is not yet documented. Christensen - Christen Christensen (4GGF) & Bodild M. SORENSEN Christensen (4GGM) emigrated from Denmark between 1857 and 1867, settling in today's Millard Co, Utah. Collins - Francis Collins Sr (10GGF) & Sarah MAYHAM Collins (10GGM) immigrated from England with their six children in Oct 1681 on The Thomas and Anne, settling in today's New Jersey. By 1683 Francis had become a member of the Governor's Council of West New Jersey. In 1684 he became a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. By 1687 he was appointed to the Council of Proprietors of West Jersey. Conder - Edward Conder Sr (3GGF) from England. It is unknown exactly when Edward immigrated, but it is known he married Helen PIERCE (3GGM) 19 Nov 1846 at St. Louis, Missouri. Cowley - Matthias Cowley (4GGF) & Ann QUAYLE Cowley (4GGM) emigrated from the Isle of Man 21 Apr 1841 on the Rochester, arriving at New York City 20 May 1841. Their young baby, Eleanor Margaret Cowley (3GGA) died in Nauvoo two months after the voyage. Dixon - Henry Dixon (9GGF) immigrated from Ireland sometime between 1660 and 1680, settling in the southeast Pennsylvania and Delaware area. Dutson - Ann GREEN Dutson (4GGM), a recent widow, immigrated from England to Nauvoo, Illinois in the 1840s with her two children, Jane Ann DUTSON (3GGA) and John William Dutson Sr (3GGF) Edwards - Robert Edwards (4GGF) emigrated from Liverpool, England 30 Jun 1868 to New York City, New York. He arrived 12 Jul 1868 on the Minnesota. His wife, Elizabeth HUNTINGTON Edwards (4GGM), followed with the children, including Sarah Elizabeth EDWARDS (3GGM), from Liverpool, England 22 Sep 1869 on the Manhattan, arriving New York City, New York 7 Oct 1869. From New York City they traveled by Rail all the way to Ogden, then traveled on foot to Beaver Co, Utah. Ericksen - Ludwig Ericksen Sr (3GGF) emigrated from Denmark in the mid-1850s. His exact arrival date is unknown. Farmer - Elizabeth MORRIS Farmer (4GGM) and children, James Morris Farmer (3GGF), Emma FARMER (3GGA), Richard Farmer (3GGU), & John Edward Farmer (3GGU), and their families emigrated from Liverpool, England 25 May 1856 on the Horizon to Boston, Massachusetts 30 Jun 1856. Elizabeth died at or near Chicago. James continued on with his family departing Iowa City 1 Aug 1856, arriving Salt Lake City between the 10th and 15th Dec 1856 after having survived the same tragedy as experienced by the Willie/Martin Handcart Companies. Ferguson - Elizabeth Ann Ferguson (3GGM) emigrated from London, England 5 May 1866 to New York City, New York with her ??. They arrived New York City 11 Jun 1866 on the Caroline. It is understood the relatives traveled by rail to the town of Wyoming in Nebraska Territory. At this location Elizabeth Ann Ferguson met George Holyoak Jr (3GGF) and he assisted in bringing her to Salt Lake City where he then married her 9 Oct 1866. Gibson - Ellen GIBSON Greene (3GGM) emigrated from Ireland in the 1800s. It is unknown exactly when she arrived and whether she came with family. She later married John Shelley (3GGF) 1 Jan 1865 after arriving in Utah. Hansen - Kirsten NIELSEN Hansen (4GGM) and daughter, Trine HANSEN (3GGM) emigrated from Denmark in the 1800s. It is unknown exactly when they traveled, although Trine married Ludwig Ericksen Sr (3GGF) 4 Oct 1863 in Salt Lake City. Kirsten's burial location has not yet been identified in Utah. Holyoak - George Holyoak, Sr. (4GGF) & Sarah GREEN Holyoak (4GGM) from Liverpool, England 22 Feb 1854 to New Orleans on the Windermere, arriving 23 Apr 1854. From New Orleans they traveled by steamboat to St. Louis. George Holyoak, Jr. (3GGF) emigrated from Liverpool, England to St. Louis, Missouri via New Orleans in 1851 Hugg - John Hugg, Sr (10GGF) from Ireland in 1683 with his children. He settled in New Jersey and is the progenitor of most, if not all, Huggs in the United States. Kump/Kumpf - Johan Wilhelm Kumpf & Eva Margretha from Germany in 1771 through Rotterdam, Netherlands on the Tygrr. There is circumstantial evidence supporting the theory that these immigrants were in fact our ancestors. Wilhelm and Eva Margretha settled modern-day Berks Co, Pennsylvania. Wilhelm is soon thereafter listed as a soldier in Capt. Wanner's Company of the Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution. By 1800 they had moved to York County where most of today's Kumps branch out. This map depicts the family's movements. Kylen - Carl Johan Kylen & Charlotta Eugenia BROMAN Kylen emigrated from Sweden in 1893 through Liverpool, England. They arrived at Ellis Island 26 Jun 1893 with their daughter, Nanny Engeborg KYLEN. Eventually the family settled in today's Bluffdale, Utah. Maris - George Maris Jr (9GGF) & Alice WELLSMITH Maris (9GGM) emigrated from England in the 1683 on the Bristol. They settled today's Chester and Delaware Counties, Pennsylvania. Mendenhall - John Mendenhall Sr (8GGF) emigrated from England in the 1680s with his siblings. He married Elizabeth MARIS (8GGM), the daughter of George Maris Jr (9GGF) 5 Aug 1685 at Darby Twp and they settled Chester Co, Pennsylvania. John and his siblings are the progenitors of nearly all Mendenhalls in the United States. Neibaur - Alexander Neibaur (3GGF) first emigrated from Germany to England. There he met and married Ellen BREAKEL (3GGM) and together they emigrated from Liverpool, England to Nauvoo, Illinois via New Orleans and St. Louis in 1841 Newbold - Michael Newbold (10GGF) & Anne NEWBOLD (10GGM) from England sometime between 1667 and 1677 and settled in New Jersey. Nichols - Sophia RICHARDSON Nichols (2GGM), a widow, emigrated from Liverpool, England 21 Aug 1886 on the Wyoming to New York City, arriving 31 Aug 1886. She traveled with her sixteen-year-old son, Mark Sylvester Nichols Sr (GGF). After arrival they made their way to Riverton, where they settled. Nielson - Lars Nielson (3GGF) & Sidsel PETERSON Nielson (3GGM) from Denmark in 1863. Their daughter, Bertha Marie NIELSON (2GGA), died in 1863 on the plains during their trek. They settled in various locations in central Utah, but eventually ended up in Millard County. O'Donnell - John O'Donnell (4GGF) is allegedly from Ireland, although this is not yet proven. - Erich Pedersen Øhlenschlæger (4GGF) & Anne Maria BRENDT Øhlenschlæger (4GGM) emigrated from Denmark in the 1800s sometime after 1844.Pierce - William Pierce (4GGF) & Sarah WAYMENT Pierce (4GGM) emigrated from Liverpool, England 19 Sep 1844 to New Orleans on the Norfolk, arriving 11 Nov 1844. From their the family traveled by steamboat up the Mississippi River to St. Louis, where both of them died. Pierson - Thomas Pierson (8GGF) emigrated from England on the Endeavor, arriving in Pennsylvania 29 Jul 1683. He later married Rose DIXON (8GGM) 26 Mar 1689 at East Caln Twp. Thomas' grandson is Benjamin West Sr (1C8R), the famous painter. Roberts - William Roberts Jr (3GGF) emigrated from England 17 Oct 1850 on the Joseph Badger. He arrived at New Orleans 23 Nov 1850 and traveled up the river by steamboat to St. Louis. His wife, Selina HARPER Roberts (3GGM), and children left England 10 Jan 1852 on the Kennebec, arriving New Orleans 19 Mar 1852. After Selina and the children arrived at St. Louis the story becomes a mystery. Allegedly the Roberts family was on the steamship Saluda when she exploded on the Missouri River, enroute to Kansas City in 1852. Death records indicate Selina died 12 Jul 1852 at St. Louis, however, and was buried at the City Cemetery. Robinson - Edward Robinson (9GGF) was our first Robinson born in the United States, being born at Delaware in 1676. His father was Robert Robinson (10GGF) but no records have been identified showing his immigration nor the name of his wife. Robert was likely from the New England colony. Shelley - James Bowyer Shelley (4GGF) & Elizabeth BRAY Shelley (4GGM) emigrated from Liverpool, England 2 Feb 1851 on the Ellen Maria to St. Louis, Missouri via New Orleans. They arrived New Orleans 6 Apr 1851. Terribly, Elizabeth drowned on the steamboat voyage up the Mississippi River on 13 Apr 1851. Stanfield - Francis Stanfield (9GGF) & Grace Stanfield (9GGM) immigrated to Pennsylvania 29 Jul 1683, arriving from England. They settled modern-day Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and their home built in the early 1700s still stands today. Stiddem/Stidham/Stedham - Dr. Timen Lulofsson Stiddem (9GGF) traveled across the Atlantic Ocean seven known times during his lifetime. The 1st voyage from Sweden arrived at the New World 29 Mar 1638, returning to Sweden in 1640. A few years later he again traveled to New Sweden on the In the Fama, returning to Sweden 1644. He later decided to emigrate with his family, but this 5th voyage over the ocean was captured near Puerto Rico 27 Aug 1649 where sadly his wife and three children died. In 1650 and 1651 he made his 8th voyage back to Sweden. His 7th voyage over the Atlantic departed Sweden arriving New Sweden 22 May 1654 on the Eagle. Stone - Solomon Stone (3GGF, 4GGF) & Catherine Ann MARTIN Stone (3GGM, 4GGM) emigrated from Liverpool, England 21 Oct 1862 to New York City. They arrived 3 Nov 1882 on the Abyssinia. They settled today's Cache Co, Utah. Thorsson/Tussey/Tossawa - Olof Thorsson (11GGF) immigrated to New Sweden (Delaware) in 1641 on the 2nd voyage of the Kalmar Nyckel. His daughter, Christina OLLESDOTTER (10GGM), later married Walraven Jansen de Vos (10GGF) at the new colony. von Löhr/Van Leer/Vanleer - Johann Georg von Löhr (or John George Vanleer) & Mary von Löhr emigrated from Germany in 1698. Johann had purchased 5000 acres from William Penn in today's Woodbury, New Jersey. They had only one son, Bernardhus von Löhr (Bernard Vanleer), who emigrated with them to the New World. Walker - John Simmonds Walker (2GGF) emigrated from London, England to New York City, New York allegedly in 1864. There are hundreds of John Walkers who immigrated in this timeframe however which makes proof difficult. Walraven - Walraven Jansen de Vos (10GGF) was among the original settlers of New Sweden in today's Delaware. One record lists his birthplace at Delaware but further evidence is needed. Wills - Daniell Wills Jr (9GGF) emigrated from England before 1686, likely with his father, Daniel Wills Sr (10GGF). Allegedly Daniel Sr died 26 May 1698 at Barbados and no records have positively identified him in immigration records. Wilson - John D Wilson (2GGF) & Anne ROBINSON Wilson (2GGM) emigrated from Liverpool, England 12 Apr 1882 to New York City on the Nevada. They arrived 24 Apr 1882. Also on the ship was their son, George Wilson (GGF). Anne died 20 Apr 1883 at Des Moines, Iowa. Woodward - Richard Woodward Sr (9GGF) & Jane Woodward (9GGM) from England about 1670. They settled in today's Chester and Delaware Counties, Pennsylvania. Wright - James Wright (4GGF) emigrated from England 10 Jan 1850 on the Argo. He arrived New Orleans 11 Mar 1850 and went upriver to St. Louis. Three years later his wife, Mary DUSSAL Wright (4GGM), and children joined him, arriving New Orleans 25 Apr 1853. James died in 1853 and whether he lived long enough for his family to join him is unknown. |
